JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A weekend wreck in Jones County claimed the life of a former West Jones High School athlete.

Tyone Clemons, 20, was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Summerland Road in Jones County according to Jones County authorities.

Clemons, who was currently a defensive lineman at East Mississippi Community College, was later pronounced dead at South Central Regional Medical Center.

Deputies arrived on scene just after 11:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Jones County Sheriff’s Department Public Relations Officer Allyson Knotts.

Knotts added that Clemons was the passenger in the vehicle, and the driver, Timothy George Brown, 19, were both transported from the scene by ambulance.

Knotts said that speed is believed to be a factor, but the accident is still under investigation.
