Jim Henderson's Black & Gold Breakdown: Redskins at Saints

FOX 8 Graphic FOX 8 Graphic

Through 10 weeks, the Washington Redskins have faced the NFL's toughest schedule. And now they get the NFL's hottest team in the Saints.

At 4 and 5, the Redskins' five defeats have come against 4 first-place teams and the Dallas Cowboys. They had the misfortune to get the Eagles twice in their first six games, and the good fortune to get the woeful Giants twice in their last six games. But by then there might be nothing on the line but pride for Jay Gruden's bunch.

Whatever the circumstances when they meet, the Redskins have been a stubborn opponent for the Saints, taking four of five meetings from New Orleans in the Drew Brees era.

As Brees and Kirk Cousins square off, it promises to be a duel between two quarterbacks who take good care of the football in the aerial game.  Brees has thrown just four interceptions. Cousins just five. But there is a marked difference in the protection each of their offensive lines is providing them.

Brees has been sacked an NFL-low eight times. Cousins has gone down 23 times while fumbling nine times behind an 0-line that has been riddled by injuries. The Saints 0-line was its healthiest of the season last week and provided incredible support in both the air and on the ground.

The Redskins aren't terribly impressive in any area. The Saints can point to multiple strengths. If you really are only as good as your last game, this is a one-sided Saints victory.  But in truth you are only as good as your next one.

And that one draws near.
