Operation Christmas Child kicks off in the Pine Belt

PINE BELT (WDAM) -

Today begins "National Collection Week" for the shoe box gift drive called "Operation Christmas Child."

That's a project of Samaritan's Purse, an international relief organization. It provides shoe boxes filled with toys, hygiene products and school supplies to children across the globe.

"Most of them go to children who've never had a gift before," said Pine Belt Operation Christmas Child Area Coordinator,Wayne Landers. "They've never had an opportunity to hear the Gospel, they're just in either war or poverty and it's just a great opportunity to help someone less fortunate than them."

You can bring items to Venture Church on Lincoln Road where volunteers will send your gift to a child in need.
