5th annual picnic/car show raises funds for wounded veterans

COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) - Veterans from the Columbia area were honored Saturday with an annual Picnic & Car, Bike and Truck show at the city's Water Park.

The 5th annual event was a fundraiser for Wounded Minutemen of Mississippi.

More than 70 classic and hot rod cars were on display, along with some military equipment.

Veterans and guests also enjoyed live music, lots of food and historic displays.

There were also activities for children.

"We talk to people about coming out and they are so positive," said Mark Retcho, chairman of the Veterans Picnic Committee. "Once you tell them you're raising funds for wounded veterans, they are interested."

"Participation is great," said Edward Corker, commander of VFW Post 5393 in Columbia. "That's what we enjoy most is seeing the people come out and fellowship with the veterans."

Organizers hoped to raise $6,000 to help wounded veterans.
