The Air Force ROTC cadets of the University of Southern Mississippi held a vigil Thursday night in honor of all the men and women who died in combat.
A list of names was read, each belonging to a brave man or woman who lost their life in service to our country. A bell rang after the reading of each veteran's name in remembrance.
The 173 veterans were from Hattiesburg and died in combat, dating back to World War I.
The vigil was tied into their annual memorial guard, where cadets spent 24 hours keeping guard of the memorial.
Cadets took guard at 11 a.m. Thursday morning and stayed until 11 a.m. Friday morning, rotating shifts every 30 minutes.
