LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Laurel police arrested a suspect following an armed robbery early Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to the Alliance Energy Gas Station located at 313 South 16th Avenue in Laurel at approximately 1:31 a.m., according to a Laurel PD press release.

"Two guys just walked in one in front of the other, said gas station owner Jagdeo Singh. "One of them took the cashier behind the cash register."

Holding her at gunpoint demanding cash.

"The second guy came around the counter after and stole cigarettes," Singh said. "The clerk was very shook up, but before they got out she called 9-1-1."

According to Singh, Laurel police were at the store almost immediately.

Within minutes a suspect matching the description was arrested near the scene. According to police, Jonathon Rashod Cooley possessed items taken from the store at the time of his arrest.

Cooley is charged with armed robbery and had his bond set at $35,000.

"I'm proud to know we have a police department like Laurel that acts so quickly," Singh said. "This is what will deter criminals from attempting to do the same thing."

At this time, one suspect is still at large. If anyone has any information regarding the crime, please contact the Laurel Police Dept. at 601-399-4440 or Crime Stoppers at 601-428-STOP.
