PERRY COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Perry County Sheriff's Department, with the help of the Lamar County Sheriff's Department and the Petal Police Department,  arrested two men and seized drugs in Beaumont Tuesday.

Avis Turner, 32, is charged with two felony counts of selling a controlled substance and one count of possession with intent to sell.

Chadrick Lawrence is charged with two counts of possession with intent to sell and one count of selling a controlled substance.

In the round up, authorities seized large amounts of cocaine, meth, prescription pills, cash and a vehicle.

"Our focus in Perry County is to fight this war on drugs, and as long as I'm in office, I will continue to fight this war and try to clean Perry County up as best I can," said Sheriff Mitch Nobles.

Some of the arrests are part of a year-long effort for the sheriff's department to rid the streets of drugs. Sheriff Nobles stressed the importance of working with other departments to pull off these types of busts.

"It's just very important to have a working relationship with all of your surrounding agencies," Nobles said. "When we lack man power, we can call on these agencies to provide more man power, and provide that safety because this job is a dangerous job."

The sheriff's department expects to make more arrests in the next few weeks. Sheriff Nobles released this statement after the roundup:

Over the last two days, the Perry County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the Lamar County Sheriff's Office and Petal Police Department conducted a drug roundup in the county. Today we executed two search warrants in the Beaumont area and seized a large amount of meth and cocaine. We also seized a large amount of U.S. currency and a vehicle.Several arrests were made on sale charges and possession charges over the last two days that stemmed from cases made throughout the year. We are still looking for several other suspects involved in multiple sale cases.
