HPD investigating rape case in Hub City

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg police are investigating a sexual assault that happened in the Hub City over the weekend.

“On Sunday, Nov. 5th, around 8 a.m., Hattiesburg Police officers responded to 5001 Hardy Street, Wesley Medical Center, for a victim that reported an alleged rape,” said Hattiesburg Police Lt. Latosha Myers-Mitchell.

Myers-Mitchell added that the victim, who was a woman, said she was sexually assaulted inside her residence in the 100 block of Plantation Blvd.

Myers-Mitchell said there are no suspects in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.

    The Mississippi Department of Corrections has locked down all prisons in its system for the weekend.  MDOC announced the weekend lockdown on Twitter on Friday, saying that there would be no visitation, commissary or outside recreation this weekend.     With inclement weather expected Sunday, the University of Southern Mississippi will wrap up its Conference USA baseball series with Middle Tennessee State University with a Saturday doubleheader at Pete Taylor Park.
