KNOXVILLE, TN - Tennessee freshman Jordan Murphy had appeared in three games prior to Saturday's contest against Southern Miss. It seemed the Hattiesburg High grad waited until he faced his hometown's college football team to grab his first career catch.
Murphy caught a 12-yard pass in the second quarter of the Volunteers' 24-10 win over the Golden Eagles.
Prior to this fall at Tennessee, Murphy recorded 78 receptions for 1,695 yards and 21 touchdowns in his senior season at Hattiesburg High in 2016.
Another Tennessee Volunteer, Robert Gillespie, is representing Hattiesburg on the sidelines. Gillespie is in his fourth season at Tennessee, serving as the assistant head coach/running backs coach/recruiting coordinator.
The former Hattiesburg High standout rushed for more than 1,800 yards and racked up 1,000-plus receiving yards at the University of Florida from 1998-2001.
