Family members hold benefit for gas explosion survivors

Stringer, MS - A benefit was held for Jasper County gas explosion survivors.

12-year old Celine Russell and 33-year old Victoria Walker were severely injured as the result of a gas explosion that killed three other family members – Robby Russell, Laura Russell and Betty Russell on September 25th.

Victoria Walker had burns over 30 percent of her body and Celine Russell had burns over 50 percent of her body.

Both suffered 3rd to 4th degree burns, according to family members. Victoria and Celine arrived home from treatment last weekend.

Relatives say they held the benefit to help cover medical expenses. The family also had an auction with all items being donated from various businesses in the community.

"The love and the outpouring of the community has been somethings," says Dean Russell, brother of
Robby Russell. "You know, you never realize how many friends and family that you have until something like this happens."

The family says they are appreciative of all the support they received. Dean Russell says the girls are physically healing but still have a long way to go.

"Well, you know, physically they're healing. Emotionally, that' s something that I can't imagine. Me personally, I've never lived through anything like that. But to be in the situation that they were in at the time of the explosion, I'm sure that they need many continued prayers."
