HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg Police Department added two more officers to their ranks on Thursday.
Seth Blackmon and Cory Shumock were both sworn in during a brief ceremony at City Hall in front of friends, family and fellow officers.
Shumock is a lateral hire from the Purvis Police Department, and Blackmon is a lateral hire from the Columbia Police Department.
The officers will start their three-week training, which will serve as a refresher course, and then be placed with a field training officer for a short time before hitting the streets on their own.
"We have two experienced officers, they're well-seasoned, so it doesn't take much time to put them through a training program and put them back out on the streets," said Hattiesburg Police Lt. Allen Murray.
According to Mayor Toby Barker, this brings the total of sworn officers in the department to 94.
