FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The haunted forest at the North Forrest Volunteer Fire Department is a fundraiser unlike any other. It's an attraction that has been scaring people for decades.

"It's a huge fundraiser for the North Forrest Volunteer Fire Department," said Forrest county fire coordinator, Chip Brown. "It's a fundraiser that started with a hope and a dream, and a little bit of plastic."

Twenty-seven years later, the event continues to help the department save lives. The money helps the department buy the life saving supplies they need to do their job and serve their community.

"Rescue tools for automobile extrication, defibrillators, medical equipment, new fire hose," Brown said. "Save money for upcoming purchases like fire trucks and things like that."

The department also gives out a scholarship to a student at North Forrest High School.

"Each year, the volunteer fire department chooses one graduate from the North Forrest High School and gives a caring for your community scholarship," Brown said. "It's a small scholarship. They will do an essay for the fire department on how they help in their community."
