HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Graduate students at The University of Southern Mississippi will soon have a chance to show off their current thesis and dissertation efforts as a part of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition.
The preliminary rounds will be held on November 1st and 2nd from 2-5 p.m. at the Trent Lott Center on the Hattiesburg campus.
On November 3rd at 2 p.m., master's and doctoral-level finalists chosen during the preliminary rounds will compete for the title of grand champion and runner - up. It will also be held at the Trent Lott Center.
Cash prizes, ranging from $250 for finalists to $1,000 for the overall winner, will be awarded to eight finalists.
The competition is open to any current master's, specialist or doctoral student who hasn't graduated before Fall 2017.
Current work must be presented.
Students will compete in one of four categories: arts and humanities, life, health and environmental sciences, physical sciences and mathematics, and social and educational sciences and business.
Participants are required to follow a spoken word format (no poems, raps, or songs permitted).
A single static PowerPoint slide is allowed, but no additional electronic media or props are allowed.
