HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg Mayor Toby Barker announced at Dewitt Sullivan Park that there will be major infrastructure upgrades in the Palmer's Crossing and Irene Chapel neighborhoods to replace and upgrade water lines.
Mayor Barker said that upgrading the water lines is a priority for the council and his administration.
"Water line replacement in Palmer's Crossing and Irene Chapel has been a priority over the past several years," Barker said. "Today we are proud to announce this investment that will provide these neighborhoods with the progress they deserve."
The budget is set at $2 million and will encompass 20 percent of the largest water lines in the neighborhoods. Streets to see new lines include (but not limited to) Dixie Pine Road, McCall Drive, Barkley Road, N Chancellor Avenue, Old Airport Road, and Travillion Drive.
"It means progress and it means teamwork with the Mayor," said Ward 5 Councilman Nicholas Brown. "We get things done. It's a slow process but we get things done."
Construction is set to begin in late November/ early December.
