HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center in Hattiesburg hosted the third annual Project Homeless Connect event on Monday. The event helps organizations reach out to the homeless population to provide resources to get them back on their feet.

"Project homeless connect is a great event because all at one time our homeless can get connected to many different services at one time," said Director of Volunteer Southeast Mississippi, Emily Gruzinskas. "Our homeless can get connected to many different services at once, rather than trucking all over town on foot to try to get from one to the other."

People who need who showed up were greeted at the door by one of the many volunteers helping out. Booths were set up inside at every table with helpful and much needed information.

"The goal of the event is to have all of these agencies and services all in one room, so all of our homeless participants can see what's available to them in the Hattiesburg area," Gruzinskas said. "All in one location, on one day so that they can get one step closer to overcoming their homelessness."

There are plans to hold another event next year.
