The Laurel Police Department in conjunction with the DEA will be hosting a Drug Take Back event on Saturday, Oct. 28, in an effort to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused unwanted prescription drugs.
Pills can be dropped off for disposal at the Laurel Police Department at 317 South Magnolia Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the service is free and anonymous with no questions asked.
This is the eighth time LPD has hosted such an event, collecting approximately 600 pounds of prescription drugs during prior events.
Medicines that languish in homes are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse, according to the LPD press release. Studies show that the majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from home medicine cabinets.
