Secretary of State Hosemann visits Petal High School after student invitation

PETAL, MS (WDAM) - A Petal High School student wanting to learn more about an essay competition sponsored by Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann asked him to speak about it at his school.

Thursday, Hosemann honored student Cody Dye's email request and he visited the school to talk about his Promote the Vote program.

It includes an art and essay contest about the future of Mississippi.

Contest winners will be invited to Jackson.

"These kids, these young men and women for these schools in different categories and an arts part, too, will be writing what the future of Mississippi is," said Hosemann. "All of that will come to us, we'll put it on our website and the winners will be invited up to Jackson on February 8."

"I'm really surprised that he came all the way down here, but I'm happy that he came," said Cody Dye. "The Promote the Vote competition as a whole is really good and got us thinking about the future of Mississippi."

The deadline for submissions to the Secretary of State's competition is December 1.
