Laurel's Loft restaurant collecting donations for fire-damaged Cafe' La Fleur

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - A Laurel restaurant is lending a helping hand to the employees of another city restaurant that was gutted by a fire last week.

The Loft on Central Avenue is collecting donations for the employees of Cafe' La Fleur.

A fire last Friday destroyed much of the second floor of that building.

The Loft's owner Jon Diggetts has also hired several of Cafe' La Fleur's servers until that restaurant reopens.

"We are extremely grateful and appreciative for the opportunity," said Jo Light, one of the servers hired by the Loft. "It's really great how they welcomed us right on in, it's just great."

"Everybody is hanging in there," said Sydney Loper, another server hired by the Loft. "We're all heartbroken and we wake up every morning and we're ready to go back to the cafe.'"

There was also extensive water damage to the first floor of Cafe' La Fleur.

Restaurant owner Matt Flowers said he hopes to reopen the restaurant in the near future.
