LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

An alleged drug deal gone bad ended in a shooting Wednesday night in Lamar County.

"Basically, what we're looking at is a drug deal gone bad," said Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel.

Rigel said the shooting happened Wednesday night on Lexington Drive around 7 p.m.

"The victim in the car said they went to purchase drugs and they didn't like the quality of the drugs," Rigel said. "Apparently an argument ensued and the alleged individual who sold the drugs fired three rounds at the car and one round hit the driver, it grazed his head."

Rigel added there were two other people in the car, but they were not injured.

"After the shooting, somehow the car took off down the road and hit several vehicles before coming to a stop," Rigel said.

He said the two passengers were each charged with one count of possession of marijuana, because of drugs found in the car during the investigation.

Those two passengers were identified as, Rachael Lanning, 27, and Anton Mykel Espenschiedarno, 21, according to Rigel.

Rigel said the driver was transported to the hospital from the scene with injuries, but doesn't believe they are life-threatening. He added that charges are pending for the driver as the investigation continues.

He added that the suspected shooter is being sought, and the investigation is ongoing.
