The identities of two people involved in a Friday night shooting in Marion County, which left one person dead and another injured, have been released by investigators.

Deputies responded to a shooting at 7 Water Valley Road in the Foxworth Community around 9:45 p.m., according to Marion County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Capt. Pete Williams.

“Deputies on scene found an unresponsive male outside the residence with what appears to be a gun shot wound and an unresponsive female inside the residence with what also appears to be a gun shot wound,” Williams said.

Investigators with Marion County Sheriff's Office identified the female involved as 30-year-old Tamaneka Murree Alexander, of Foxworth, who passed away Friday night as a result of her injuries. The male involved is identified as 48-year-old Handy Anthony Willis, Jr. who is currently stable at Forrest General Hospital.

Alexander was transported by LifeFlight air ambulance to Forrest General where she later died. The man was transported by AAA Ambulance and was listed in critical condition on Saturday.

“It appears the shooting involved only the two injured people at the residence,” said Marion County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Jamie Singley. “It’s still early in the investigation and we are working with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation along with their Crime Scene Unit.”

The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has any information, contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Department 601-736-5051.
