MARION COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A Friday night shooting in Marion County left one person dead and another fighting for their life.

Deputies responded to a shooting at 7 Water Valley Road in the Foxworth Community around 9:45 p.m., according to Marion County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Capt. Pete Williams.

“Deputies on scene found an unresponsive male outside the residence with what appears to be a gun shot wound and an unresponsive female inside the residence with what also appears to be a gun shot wound,” said Williams.

Williams added that the woman was transported by LifeFlight air ambulance where she later died at Forrest General Hospital.

The man was transported by AAA Ambulance and is listed in critical condition.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time.

“It appears the shooting involved only the two injured people at the residence,” said Marion County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Jamie Singley. “It’s still early in the investigation and we are working with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation along with their Crime Scene Unit.”
