Man charged with Choctaw woman's murder appears in court

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A man who was charged with the murder of a Jones County Choctaw woman appeared in Hattiesburg Federal Court Tuesday.

Stuart Nickey, 33, appeared  for his initial appearance and arraignment before Judge Michael Parker at 10 a.m. in connection with the death of Cassidy Shoemake.

Nickey was detained, and no bond was set, according to Parker's court clerk.

Judge Parker set Nickey's trial date for November 22nd in Judge Keith Starrett's courtroom.

Initial reports: 

Shoemake was found dead on July 1 in the Bogue Homa Community.

Nickey was charged with 2nd degree murder, two counts of child abuse, possession of marijuana, intoxication and resisting arrest.
