Weather will delay Ole Miss opener in Oxford Regional

OXFORD, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Ole Miss softball will host NCAA Regionals for the first time in program history. Mother Nature has other ideas as rain rolled into Oxford during the Arizona State/North Carolina matchup.

Ole Miss/Southern Illinois were originally set for a 8:30pm first pitch but the delay will push the start of that game. You can watch it online at

The Rebels are the number 12 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. They welcome Arizona State, North Carolina, and Southern Illinois to the Ole Miss Softball Complex

We're used to packed houses at the Vaught and Swayze. Friday's softball regional opener is already a sell out.

Head coach Mike Smith can't wait for a huge weekend on the diamond. "There's going to be fans everywhere. I mean it's going to be absolute mayhem around here. But this is why I came here. I wanted to transform this program into what we're about to see this weekend. And it's going to be exciting. I think it's going to be a pretty spectacular event that we're about to put on."

Rachel Richlinski will be in Oxford covering the Rebels. You can follow her on facebook and on twitter.
