POPLARVILLE, MS (WDAM) - The following is a press release from Pearl River Community College.
The outbreak of the mumps at Pearl River Community College has affected only the baseball team. Six baseball players were diagnosed with the disease last week. We have had no new cases since that time.
Anybody showing symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches and swollen or tender glands under the ears, we have asked them to go to the doctor and get checked.
As of today, we have not had any more confirmed cases
We've been in constant contact with Mississippi Department of Health. We've talked to them numerous times. It's been confined to our baseball team.
Campus officials have been sterilizing the areas the baseball players use regularly.
Said Dr. Adam Breerwood, vice president, "Our campus has responded very well," he said. "I think we're through the worst of it. We're handling it, and we're following every necessary step. We're doing everything we can on our end so that we don't continue the spread."
