ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Several dozen people gathered in Ellisville Friday to unveil and dedicate Jones County's newest Blue Star Memorial.
It honors the sacrifices of veterans.
It is located near Interstate 59, adjacent to West Ellisville Baptist Church.
The memorial is sponsored by the Laurel Iris Society and the Ellisville Garden Club.
"I just don't think that veterans are given the respect they should be or the credit they should be," said Geni Looney, president of the Laurel Iris Society. "I think Ellisville needs to show the recognition to our little town that our veterans here deserve."
"It makes me feel good, it makes me proud, it really does," said John Rounsaville, a World War Two veteran from Forrest County who attended the unveiling.
"We're so proud of the garden club for erecting this monument and we hope it will be a constant reminder of why we're free," said Jimmy Bass, another World War Two veteran from Laurel.
Another Blue Star Memorial is located at the Veterans Memorial Museum in Laurel and a third is in Northeast Jones County.
