HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Some folks in Hattiesburg were celebrating an early Earth Day Thursday.

The City of Hattiesburg teamed up with the Hattiesburg Downtown Farmer's Market at Town Square Park to bring attention to conservation issues, green energy and sustainability.

In addition to the usual fruit and vegetable vendors, there were lots of organizations providing information on clean energy.

We've got vendors here giving information to the public, anything from composting, solar energy," said Ann Jones, general manager of parks and recreation for the City of Hattiesburg.

"We're trying to promote clean energy here, whether it's solar energy, wind power, trying to make it so we reduce our carbon footprint here in the city," said Mark Klinedinst, president of the Hattiesburg Downtown Farmer's Market.

The official Earth Day is Saturday, April 22.

As a freshman quarterback playing behind one of the best athletes to come through Columbia Academy in recent years, Thomas Erastus “Ras” Pace got his first career start in what was arguably the Cougars’ biggest game of the 2016 season. “I thought I did a pretty good job handing the ball off,” said Pace of his starting debut in a second-round MAIS AAA playoff game in place of the inured Wiley Cleland.
