HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The City of Hattiesburg held it's second Disability Awareness Day in Downtown Hattiesburg at the Jackie Dole Community Center Wednesday.
The goal of the event was to connect the disabled community with people and resources that could better serve their needs.
In the U.S. there are over 56 million people that have some sort of disability.
"There are a lot of organizations, that I feel like, can help some people out there who probably do know that they exist," said Katie Weeks, Disability Advocate for The City of Hattiesburg. "So it's very important that we connect those people with the resources that are available to them in the community."
The event attracted more than 25 service providers and more than 100 attendees.
