LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The chairman of the Mississippi Republican Party was in Lamar County Tuesday night, to show support for local GOP candidates who are running in the state's municipal elections.

Joe Nosef spoke to the Lamar County Republican Club at the Midway Community Center.

He said he's hopeful the party will make gains in those upcoming elections.

"We've had more people qualify to run as a Republican in more municipalities than ever before, so that was our goal this year, is to have a very robust turnout in terms of candidates and now, of course, once we get through with our primaries, we're going to do what we can to support them," said Nosef.

Nosef also said he was in the area to thank local residents who've helped the Republican Party in Mississippi.
