Southern Miss Alumni Association Announces Date for Homecoming 2017

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The following is a news release from The University of Southern Mississippi

The University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association is pleased to announce Homecoming 2017 is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14, when the Golden Eagles football team battles the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in M. M. Roberts Stadium.

A full week of activities and tradition will be hosted across all areas of campus beginning as early as Monday, Oct. 9. Trademark events include the 19th Annual Southern Miss Alumni Homecoming Scholarship Golf Tournament, the prestigious Alumni Hall of Fame Banquet, annual Awards Ceremony and Business Meeting, and the Homecoming parade.

“Homecoming at Southern Miss is a special invitation for all Golden Eagles to return home to their alma mater,” said Jerry DeFatta, executive director of the Southern Miss Alumni Association. “It is always an exciting time to be on campus and to experience the energy that makes Southern Miss so special. As always, we look forward to connecting with alumni and hope to build upon relationships that result in a lasting commitment to our beloved University.”

    As a freshman quarterback playing behind one of the best athletes to come through Columbia Academy in recent years, Thomas Erastus “Ras” Pace got his first career start in what was arguably the Cougars’ biggest game of the 2016 season. “I thought I did a pretty good job handing the ball off,” said Pace of his starting debut in a second-round MAIS AAA playoff game in place of the inured Wiley Cleland.
