Two injured in Easter Sunday accident

SANDERSVILLE, MS (WDAM) -

A two vehicle accident Sunday evening shut down the intersection of South Front Street and Main Street in Sandersville, and left two people injured.

Sandersville and Rustin Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene of the accident and found two vehicles.

According to the Jones County Fire Council, when they arrived on scene a van was blocking one lane of South Front Street and a car was blocking one lane of Main Street near the railroad tracks,

Both vehicles had extensive damage, according to a news release issued by the council.

According to reports, the adult female driver of the van was unconscious when initial units arrived on scene, but she later regained consciousness and was able to communicate with emergency responders.

The driver of the van and an occupant of the red car were both transported by EMServ ambulance to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel with what was believed to be moderate injuries, according to the council.

The cause of the accident is unknown.

Emergency personnel on scene included Sandersville and Rustin Volunteer Fire Departments, Sandersville Police Department, EMServ Ambulance Service, Jones County Sheriff's Department, Jones County Fire Public Information Officer Caleb Worrell and Mississippi Highway Patrol.

    As a freshman quarterback playing behind one of the best athletes to come through Columbia Academy in recent years, Thomas Erastus “Ras” Pace got his first career start in what was arguably the Cougars’ biggest game of the 2016 season. “I thought I did a pretty good job handing the ball off,” said Pace of his starting debut in a second-round MAIS AAA playoff game in place of the inured Wiley Cleland.
