William Carey baseball tied for first in SSAC

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - William Carey snapped a two game losing streak by defeating Martin Methodist 10-1 on Friday afternoon.

The win improved the Crusaders' record to 28-13 overall including 15-5 in the Southern States Athletic Conference.

Following Friday's win, William Carey is currently tied with Middle Georgia State atop the SSAC standings. The Crusaders own the tiebreaker over the Knights having won the season series 2-1.

Chasing William Carey is the top-ranked team in all of NAIA, Faulkner University. Just 1.5 games back of first place in the conference, the Faulkner Eagles host the Crusaders a week from Friday.

"We talked about it before the game...we have to go play the team that's leading the conference next weekend," said William Carey head coach Bobby Halford. "So we have to take care of our business every time we go out. Everything is in our hands, we control everything. We got to take it one at a time and we got to take care of business."

William Carey has just five SSAC games remaining, including Saturday's doubleheader with Martin Methodist beginning at 12 p.m.
