PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

Some Petal tornado victims are getting some additional financial help as they rebuild.

Wednesday afternoon, the Petal Area Chamber of Commerce presented the Greater Pine Belt Community Foundation with a check for $21,652.63.

The money was raised last month at a "Protectors of Petal" event and will go to help Petal families.

"We did have an event on March 4th at the Venue at Rose Oak, which included blues and barbecue, a silent auction, a live auction, we did everything we possibly could to raise as much money as we could," said Valerie Wilson, executive director of the Petal Area Chamber of Commerce.

"In Petal, we're not just the safest city in the State, but we're also like a real family-type feel, so when anything happens at all, it's just like everyone helps each other," said Chae Carter, a member of the Petal Area Chamber of Commerce.

The event also honored all of Petal's first responders.
