JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

This is a news release from the Jones County Fire Council.

Wednesday morning, Shady Grove and Sharon Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene of a fully involved mobile home fire on Matthews Road off of Highway 15 North. Responding units advised seeing heavy black smoke from the highway and requested additional assistance from Calhoun and Soso Volunteer Fire Departments.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the home completely engulfed in flames and heavy smoke, with most of the structure beginning to cave in. Firefighters acted quickly to extinguish the blaze but the rapid spread of fire had already destroyed most of the home.

According to the homeowner, he had be performing a controlled burn of some grass in front of his home when he noticed the flames approaching dangerously close the house. By the time he was able to react, the home was already on fire and a passerby called 911. The homeowner stated that everything he owned was inside the home and that he did not have homeowner's insurance.

The home is a total loss. No injuries were reported during the fire.

The homeowner stated that because of the loss of all of his belongings inside the home, he is willing to accept donations. If you would like to donate needed items, such as clothes, food, and general necessities, please contact the homeowner, Brian Matthews, at 601-729-2526

Emergency personnel on scene included Shady Grove, Sharon, Calhoun, Soso and Pleasant Ridge Volunteer Fire Departments, Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna, Jones County Fire Public Information Officer Caleb Worrell and EMServ Ambulance Service.
