PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

The Petal Public Improvement Corp received a $10,000 check from the Arby’s Foundation, along with the TEGNA Foundation, Tuesday.

They invited communities to have their own Make-A-Difference Day, and Petal was chosen as one of 13 nationwide recipients, among some 2,000 entries.

The city's Chamber of Commerce divided the monies between The Petal Children's Task Force, The Petal Center for Seniors and Veterans and the Petal Education Foundation by giving them each a check for $3,500.

"I registered with Make-A-Difference Day earlier in the year, and my only clue that there might be money involved was we got a $50-dollar gift card to help us with supplies, so that excited me so you can imagine what $10,000 dollars does,” said Valerie Wilson, executive director of Petal Area Chamber of Commerce. “We have spread this all across our community to all of our very wonderful non-profits, and we’re trying to make a difference.”

Petal's nomination came from when they held their own Make-A-Difference Day in October 2016.
