HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Come see a behind-the-scenes look at the Hattiesburg Zoo as it celebrates its 67th anniversary! The annual event, Birthday Bash: Hattiesburg Zoo Unzipped, will take place Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

According to a press release from the Hattiesburg Zoo, various activities will be available throughout the day, including birthday celebrations, lawn games, cake, unlimited train and carousel rides, animal encounters, science experiments and more.

During the birthday bash, zookeepers will give free 15-minute tours to areas of the zoo that are usually restricted from guest access, which include the animal kitchen, quarantine and animal hospital and African Barn. Tours for the tigers’ exhibit holding area are $5 per person and can be purchased the day of the event.

“We are excited to give our guests an opportunity to see how the Zoo operates on a daily basis from behind-the-scenes,” said Stephen Taylor, Hattiesburg Zoo animal care manager, in a press release. “These tours will give Zoo visitors the chance to talk to our keepers and see where our animals go when not on exhibit. It’s also an incredible time to showcase all of the Zoo’s growth and enhancements.”

Admission is $10 for everyone, and children under two years old have free admission. Annual passes are not applicable.

You can purchase a ticket the day of the event or beforehand here. The deadline for advance tickets is April 28 at 5 p.m.
