HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A week ago, Southern Miss led Ole Miss 5-1 at Trustmark Park, seeking its seventh straight win.
Five Rebel runs later, Ole Miss came away with a 6-5 victory in 12 innings.
Including the win over USM, the Rebels (20-12, 6-6 SEC) have won four straight headed into Tuesday night's rematch at Pete Taylor Park.
The Golden Eagles (26-7, 10-2 C-USA) went 2-1 against FIU over the weekend and rank as high as No. 16 in D1Baseball.com's poll.
"The game itself, you've got to finish the game," said USM head coach Scott Berry in reference to last Tuesday's loss. "You've got to play the game, whether it's from the beginning, the middle or the end. I think you just move forward from that experience right there. I know our guys were really down from losing that game, obviously. But since [the Ole Miss loss], we've been able to win two of three. We've gotten ourselves back in the taste of the win column. Tuesday's just an opportunity to win a baseball game. It happens to be Ole Miss, but it's an opportunity to go out and play baseball and play it the right way to win."
Southern Miss junior righthander Taylor Braley (3-0, 4.26 ERA) is expected to start while freshman righthander Greer Holston (0-2, 3.18) will take the mound for Ole Miss.
First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
