PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

WoodmenLife, a not-for-profit insurance society, has donated $8,400 to Petal's Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church.

The church's sanctuary and fellowship hall were destroyed in the Jan. 21 tornado.

Church buildings were also leveled in a 2013 tornado.

The donation was made up of funds collected at WoodmenLife chapters across the U.S.

Church pastor Rev. Carl Burkett said construction is scheduled to begin next week on a new fellowship hall, which should be completed in November.

He said work will then start on a new sanctuary.

A few weeks ago, WoodmenLife also donated $15,000 to William Carey University to help it recover from tornado damage.
