HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Construction crews in Hattiesburg worked until midnight to repair a 20-inch water line that ruptured Tuesday morning.

According to the City of Hattiesburg, 30 people were without water when the initial rupture happened. The water was restored by the time workers finished up Wednesday morning.

“This was a phenomenal job by a number of just wonderful people. This is what teamwork is about,” said Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny Dupree.

The suddenness of the rupture caught the city off guard, but Mayor DuPree praised the workers for their effort.

“We had no way to prepare for this. All of a sudden it happens. We get the call, then 12 hours later we’re back up”, DuPree said.

The city expects the boil water notice issued for residents located north of 4th Street, West of Mobile Street, south of 42 and east of north 19th Avenue to remain in effect until at least Friday.

“We will be under a boil water notice until hopefully Friday. We have to have two clean water samples in order to lift a boiled water notice” said Hattiesburg water and sewer operations director Chad Frierson.

The city encourages everyone who is still experiencing water outages to contact the City of Hattiesburg action center line at 601-545-4500.
