HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Lumberton woman has been charged and is behind bars in connection to a Tuesday afternoon stabbing.

Anita Dates, 52, was treated at Forrest General Hospital for a cut to her hand and taken into custody by Lumberton Police.

Dates was charged with one count of aggravated assault and booked into the Lamar County Jail.

The victim, whose name is not being released at this time, is listed in critical condition at Forrest General Hospital, according to Lumberton Police Chief Elsie Cowart.

The stabbing happened just after 4 p.m. at 1000 Magnolia Street, and Lumberton authorities are calling the matter a domestic related incident.

"When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds, and the woman had a stab wound to the hand," Cowart said.

The investigation is still ongoing according to Cowart.
