1 dead, 3 injured in Greene Co. weekend crash

GREENE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a two vehicle accident on MS 63 at the intersection of Hwy 63  Friday.

The accident occurred at approximately 5:28 p.m. and upon MHP arrival, the initial investigation concluded Lauren E. Norris, 20, of Neely, MS was traveling southbound in a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu.  

Joesph Beard, 21, of Leakesville was traveling southbound on Alice Rd in a 2011 GMC Sierra pickup truck.  

According to Brent Barfield, Public Information Officer for MHP Troop J, Beard traveled into the intersection from Alice Rd colliding into the driver side door of Norris' Chevrolet.  

Beard was transported to Greene Co Hospital for treatment.  

Cody Bridges 22, of Richton, Tristin Walley 18, of Richton, and Henry Smith 20, of Richton were passengers in Beards' vehicle at the time of the accident and were all transported to Greene Co Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

 All occupants traveling in Beards' vehicle were restrained at the time of the crash.  

According to Barfield, due to injuries sustained in the crash, Norris was pronounced dead on the scene by the Greene County Coroner and had to be extricated from her vehicle.

Norris was also restrained at the time of the crash.  

The accident remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
