Camp Shelby Museum to help celebrate Mississippi's bicentennial on Gulf Coast

CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM) - The staff at the Armed Forces Museum at Camp Shelby will be headed to the Gulf Coast soon to help celebrate Mississippi's bicentennial.

The museum will showcase exhibits and vehicles next weekend in Gulfport at the first of three Mississippi bicentennial celebrations.

It will take place at the old VA Hospital, which was the site of a Mississippi centennial celebration in 1917.

"We're very honored to be invited to be a part of that," said Chad Daniels, museum director. "I think our military history is a big part of Mississippi's 200 years and we're happy to do what we can to support that and to make people realize how lucky we are that we've got such great folks in our state."

Oxford will host another bicentennial event in June and a third will take place in Jackson in December.
