HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - LIFE of Mississippi held a ribbon-cutting for its new location in Hattiesburg Thursday.
It was formally located in the Hattiesburg Police Department but now has its new home on 4th street.
The purpose of the center is to empower people with significant disabilities to be as independent and involved in their communities as they can, and want to be.
"eEeryone in the city who has a disability and that needs our services, This is your home. so this means not only everything to us but for all people with disabilities living within the city," said Dwight Owens American Disabilities Act ADA representative. "A lot of people that need medical equipment that don't have access to it, maybe they don't have insurance, maybe they can't afford it, and we can help them get that type of equipment."
Nearly 40 people, mostly city employees, were on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The office is located next to these city's employee health clinic.
The city of Hattiesburg helped make this office relocation possible by contributing the location and construction staff that aided in preparing the office to be occupied.
