WAYNE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Wayne County Sheriff's Department, along with multiple agencies, staged several checkpoints around the county early Wednesday morning.
Wayne County Sheriff Jody Ashley said that there are close to 5,000 outstanding warrants from the justice courts.
"We have a CAD system with the sheriff's department and once this data is entered, we can automatically tell within seconds whether this person is wanted or not," Ashley said. "We're checking not only seat belts, child restraint seats, making sure that they have proof of insurance and also being seen in the public eye of a joint force."
The checkpoints are expected to go on throughout the day and even into the evening.
