LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

With the need for land to expand, the city of Laurel has set its eyes once again on the Pendorff community.

The Laurel City Council voted to file an annexation petition with Chancery Court Tuesday.

With the city's growth to the south, it is continuing to look for new areas for residential and business developments

"We need land to expand, you know, we had somebody come yesterday and they were looking for five or six acres to build some townhouses, it wasn't available inside the city limits of Laurel as it stands now, there is vacant property in the Pendorff Community," Mayor Johnny Magee said.

The last time the city of Laurel tried to expand was in 1997, when it tried to annex the Pendorff and Shady Grove communities.
