HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Hub City man, who became a viral internet sensation is behind bars for allegedly biting off part of a woman's  lip.

David Alexander, 24, was arrested Tuesday morning by Hattiesburg police and charged with one count of domestic violence-aggravated assault for a crime that allegedly occurred in late February.

Alexander was featured on the Weather Channel after the Jan. 21, 2017 tornado in Hattiesburg, and his interview went viral shortly after.

On Feb. 23, 2017, around 4:15 a.m. officers were dispatched to Forrest General Hospital for a victim who had been assaulted, according to Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler.

Traxler said the incident occurred in the 100 block of Harrell Street.

"When officers arrived, they were advised David Alexander had assaulted the mother of his child," said Traxler. "The victim advised that Alexander came to her residence in an attempt to use her vehicle, and when the victim refused, Alexander located the keys and tried to leave."

Traxler added that's when an altercation occurred.

"Alexander grabbed the victim and bit off a portion of her lower lip then fled on foot," said Traxler.

This investigation is ongoing, and if anyone has any information they are asked to call Hattiesburg Police 601-544-7900 or Metro CrimeStoppers.
