YAZOO COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Yazoo man has died after being shot in the face Sunday after a fight.

According to Investigator Terry Gann with the Yazoo County Sheriff's Dept. 55-year-old Chris Day, of Yazoo City, was airlifted to UMMC Sunday after 76-year-old Billy Thomas shot him in the face.

The incident happened around 3:40 p.m. Sunday on Canton Drive.  Thomas said he fired two warning shots at the ground before shooting Day.

After some lengthy questioning, investigators discovered that Day had been harassing Thomas for years.  Day used to own some property along Canton Drive, but lost it due to financial reasons.

Thomas purchased the land that Day used to own, and it has been a source of contention for the two over the last  4-5 years.

According to investigators, Day went to Thomas' residence on Friday AND Saturday to harass him over the land again.  Shooting occurred Sunday, the third time he approached Thomas.

The Yazoo County Sheriff's Office has ruled this shooting self-defense and they plan to present what happened to the grand jury for them to decide if they want to charge the shooter with anything.
