USM baseball clinches Louisiana Tech series

RUSTON, La. (AP) - Southern Miss baseball is off to a hot start in Conference USA play, clinching a series win over No. 23 Louisiana Tech with a 13-9 win on Saturday.

Golden Eagles hit four home runs as a team and Hayden Roberts grabbed his second win of the season, going 5 2/3 innings with six strikeouts and three earned runs allowed.

The second inning is when USM did the majority of its damage. Down 2-0, junior Casey Maack put the Eagles on the board with a solo homer over the left field fence.

USM senior Dylan Burdeaux followed it up with a two-out RBI double, scoring LeeMarcus Boyd to tie the game at 2-2.

Sophomore Hunter Slater's liner into right broke the tie, giving Southern Miss a 3-2 lead. Slater finished Saturday 3-6 with 3 RBIs at the plate.

Junior Taylor Braley's fifth homer of the year was a three-run shot, extending USM's lead to 6-2.

The Golden Eagles (15-4, 2-0 C-USA) goes for the series sweep over Louisiana Tech on Sunday at 1:00.
