HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Hattiesburg sorority chapter is joining other chapters across the country in reaching out to support the development of young people.

The Beta Chi Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. hosted an annual Youth Symposium at the Sherrill Community Center Saturday.

It was open to boys and girls, but specifically focused on girls ages 13-17.

The conference stressed leadership, health and physical fitness and financial literacy and featured presentations from several local professionals.

"Most of our sorority members are educators, and so we have a love for our children already embedded in our hearts," said Linda Little, co-chair for the symposium. "Some are very much retired, but still want to be a part of their lives."

This was the 19th year for the symposium.
