Funeral services set for fallen firefighter

SUMRALL, MS (WDAM) - Funeral arrangements have been made for Loretta "Lorrie" Sykes, 53, who was killed in a hit-and-run accident Wednesday evening in Sumrall.

According to Lamar County Coroner Cody Creel, Sykes and Clinton Alvin Beasley, 80, died at the scene. Sykes and Beasley were both firefighters at the Sumrall Volunteer Fire Department.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Hulett Winstead Funeral Home in Sumrall.  A visitation will be held at the same location on Sunday from 6 - 9 p.m.   Sykes will be buried in the Military Cemetery.

Sykes was a longtime resident of Sumrall.  She was a volunteer firefighter for the Hickory Grove and Sumrall Fire Departments for the past two years.  She received many awards for her dedication and commitment to her duties with the fire departments.

Sykes was a mother to three children and had nine grandchildren.
