Tylertown man hit by his own car, vehicle plunges into Pearl River

MARION COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A man was rescued by Marion County deputies after he was run over by his own car Monday night.

Deputies were dispatched to a report of a vehicle in the river near the Pearl River bridge on Highway 98 West.

When they arrived they made contact with Jimmy Fairburn of Tylertown.

According to deputies, Fairburn stopped at the boat ramp to take a look at the river. While exiting his vehicle he slipped and inadvertently grabbed the gear shift putting the vehicle in neutral or drive.

The deputies said his vehicle began to roll and struck Fairburn.

The vehicle continued into the Pearl River and floated some distance before stopping on a sandbar.

Fairburn was transported to Forest General via AAA Ambulance Service.
